ABOUT AUSTRIA CONNECT
The Community for Austrian Business in China
AUSTRIA CONNECT CHINA is the network for Austrian companies with subsidiaries in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao. It brings together managers of Austrian companies with subsidiaries in China, managers responsible for such subsidiaries outside of Austria, selected service providers that usually work with our subsidiaries, and Austrian managers preparing themselves for their companies to enter the Chinese market. The network is powered by Austria’s official trade promotion organization ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA (AUSSENWIRTSCHAFT AUSTRIA) at the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber WKO with offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shenyang, Xian and Hong Kong.
China is an important business partner for Austrian companies. The official statistics illustrate what Austrian companies have achieved so far and that further potential awaits. By the end of 2019, Austrian direct investments in China amounted to 5.51 million Euro and employed over 21,000 people. Austrian exports and imports of goods and services to and from China in 2019 were over 13 billion Euro.
In an especially complex market like China, our companies become stronger when they work together and learn from each other. The network aims to introduce managers to each other and to enable dialogue and exchange of information. Sometimes just a quick message and phone call to peers can help avoid making the same mistake again or even take us a step further. Many other nations admire our Austrian business community abroad for maintaining links to other Austrian companies as well as giving each other a hand.
Annual AUSTRIA CONNECT CONFERENCE
At least once a year we aim to meet at conferences in different parts of China. The 2019 AUSTRIA CONNECT conference in Hong Kong in Oct brought together over 150 managers, fostered many introductions, and strengthened existing relationships. At our conference on Nov 6, 2020 we will do our utmost to provide a hybrid version of a physical event in Shanghai, virtual sessions from Beijing and Hong Kong and an offer to video call with a format replicating some of the benefits of meeting in person.

Austrian Business Confidence Surveys
At least once a year the ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA offices in China ask subsidiaries of Austrian companies in China about their assessment of opportunities and threads of doing business in and with China. Their views and assessments help the ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA offices to tailor their services.
